In our lives, we face a lot of daily struggles and frustrations. Whether it be financial issues, health issues, or family issues, we all have them. People often find different ways of taking their minds off of their personal realities; unhealthy ways. As a child of God, we have to be careful with the company we keep, the kind of music we listen to, what we drink, what we eat etc. We have to live our lives totally focused on God, and what he has in store for us. So what better way of getting closer to God than prayer?
Talking to Our Heavenly Father
Let me be totally honest with you. I am no prayer warrior. In fact, whenever I have to pray in a large group or in front of anybody I feel nervous. Especially when it's in front of a "prayer warrior" or warriors. I'm not exactly sure what a "prayer warrior" is, but to guess, I would like to believe that a "prayer warrior" is someone who takes every single thing to God in prayer. Being that we live in a world that falsely interprets what and who Christians are, many people believe that to pray to God, you have to know big words and talk in a proper tone, when really praying to God is simply talking to him. Of course we can't just talk to him any kind of way, we have to recognize that we are talking to a holy being. He is indeed an almighty, all knowing, powerful God.
With all the issues that come with life, it is sometimes easier to just find something that makes you feel good emotionally and physically when you are going through tough times. But it's the moments when you feel so overwhelmed with trials and other basic annoyances of life; that's when we need to really focus on what God has to say to us. Some of us, turn to food, sex, drugs and all kinds of stuff to take our minds off of reality, a 'temporary relief". Only to find that once that "temporary relief" wears off, reality smacks us in the face again. That is why we have so many people on drugs and can't get off of them and people having health issues at young ages, because of SIN. In God's word, he teaches us how to not only get through hard times but also how to grow and learn through them. We all have something we wish wasn't apart of our lives. "Lord, if you could just take this out of my life, I'll be good". God puts us through certain obstacles for a reason. Not to make our lives miserable, but so we may learn to keep our focus on him. So trust God and talk to him, tell him all your frustrations and tell him what pains you emotionally and physically. I encourage you to do this because as I am typing this, I have dry tears streaming down my face.
I am going through a tough time in my life right now. I recently left my job because it was too physically demanding. I needed the job (still do) for obvious reasons. I started applying to different places, but no one was hiring, and the ones that were, required experience and degrees that I didn't have. Being that I have a weight problem, and the fact that my back will start to hurt if I stand or walk too long, it limits my options to where I would enjoy working. I started to feel like I was drowning. I started to feel guilty that I quit my job and asking myself, what if God didn't want me to leave my job? Being the oldest child at 23 years old and not knowing where your life is headed is a little nerve racking. No, I take that back, it is extremely nerve racking. But, I am keeping the faith and trusting God that through all of this confusion and sadness, will come clarity and happiness. Throughout the day, I try to talk to God and first thank him for all that he has done in my life, what he has kept me away from and who he has put in my life. Talking to God every day forms a relationship, just like a friendship. We don't talk to our friends every other five months or so, or only talk to them when we are complaining about something; we shouldn't do that to God either. Trust that he will bring you through whatever you are struggling with in your life right now, because he will. You just have to talk to him.
